Code Geass, an excess of mech shite with pretty-much-the-same-concept as Death Note.

Any recomendations that also take place in a beliveable setting without an excess of karate and ninja shit? I liked the mind games that went on in Death Note.
You should watch some classics like Trigun or Slayers before you get burned out on the shitty new stuff.

`'Tis some visitor,' I muttered, `tapping at my chamber door -
Only this, and nothing more.'

The coffin also gets cut in half a few episodes in, but never the less, it was good.

Anime is exploding with crazy ninja action shit and also with meaningless plots and retarded characters who ponder their menial existence with the timeless question 'Why?'

Depends on which you like more but here are some that I sat through the entirety of:

Nadesico - Spaceship mech anime with a funny in depth twist ending and a main protagonist who awkwardly gets the girls swooning over him not too much action over story

Evangelion - Oldie, alot of indepth nonsense and mech fighting with alot of 'Why?' (but as much as I bag it I love it)

Full Metal Panic - mech again but more modern than future story about a boy protecting a girl who doesn't know he is, pretty funny (second series which is kinda a whole new story gets better Imo)

Outlaw Star - again space, but with a egotistical womanising merc (I liked it alot)

Samuari Champloo - I really liked this one its Edo japan and two mercs get caught up helping a stupid girl find a man but they are wicked characters

and you can't forget Cowboy Beebop its just a classic must see

if you want tons of brutal action there is always 'Berserker' - 'Ninja scroll' - 'Gungrave' - 'Seven samurai' - 'Vampire Hunter D' and 'Code Geass' mentioned before

just a few I've remembered over the years
